Tom Schimmer Presents 'REMOTE Grading and Assessment...HELP!'
Jan 26 to Feb 2
Registration covers up to 6 PD Clock Hours (3 Sessions). Each additional session is $25. Participants can choose sessions from either day.
JANUARY 26 Session 1: Assessment is the Engine (KEYNOTE) - 1 PDCH Tom highlights why developing one’s assessment literacy is the most efficient and effective professional investment any teacher can make. This session also focuses on some fundamental practices that make remote and hybrid learning easier to navigate and why teachers must always keep the emotional side of assessment at the forefront.
Session 2 (K-8) & Session 3 (6-12): Using Assessment to Drive Learning - 2.5 PDCH This session focuses on how assessment in remote and face-to-face models can drive students to reach high levels of learning. Specifically, this session highlights the principles behind rigorous assessment design, the keys to effective feedback, the development of clear success criteria, and the ways students can become more invested in their own learning through their teacher's purposeful efforts. This session is a mix of theory and practical strategies.
FEBRUARY 2 Session 4: Q&A for Administrators and Instructional Leaders - 1 PDCH
Session 5 (K-8) & Session 6 (6-12): Accurate Grading in Remote Learning - 2.5 PDCH This session focuses on the purpose of summative assessment to ensure teachers are able to accurately determine student proficiency. Specifically, it focuses on how to create a seamless relationship between instruction and grading, the big ideas that ensure grades are both valid and reliable, and essential practices that ensure an adequate sampling of evidence. Participants come to know why a percentage-based system offers the illusion of precision and why traditional grading practices hold students less accountable to learning.https://reg.learningstream.com/reg/event_page.aspx?ek=0044-0016-79562fafc99241a8a14c1bf043a76c4a

AA#1448: Teacher Evaluator Competency Skill Building for Pre-Qualified Teacher Evaluators
Jan 26 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Online via Zoom
Online via Zoom
Administrators who evaluate teachers must demonstrate a high rate of inter-rater reliability, and communicate evaluation outcomes in constructive and supportive ways. Administrators who evaluate teachers must also recognize and control for bias when conducting an evaluation and determining results. School districts in Illinois must provide professional development to administrators to strengthen these skills on a sustained basis. This course focuses on Domains 2 and 3, and is intended to move administrators who have passed the ISBE evaluator training, and who are very familiar with Charlotte Danielson’s 2011/2013 Framework for Teaching, from compliance to competency. This course requires participants to view teaching, record data according to the Professional Practice rubric, and participate in mock evaluation conferences as evaluator, teacher, or observer. Participants will also be expected to have a high degree of inter-rater reliability when they determine a final rating based on the evidence gathered during the observations. This course is one in a series of three courses focusing on teacher evaluator competency requirements.+ https://reg.abcsignup.com/reg/event_page.aspx?ek=0044-0016-573f077bbc06422a91bbbfedd2610b10
