September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we want you to meet our Attendance Improvement Program TEAM!

Kim Nix and Meggi Aspengren work hand-in-hand with students, area schools and families through the Regional Office of Education's Attendance Improvement Program. The Attendance Improvement Specialists provide information, resources, and referrals to families, empowering them to achieve consistent school attendance, supporting their student’s academic success, and making great strides to strengthen the school-family connection in our community.

Check out this article by Hedy Chang, the Director of Attendance Works, a national and state level initiative aimed at advancing student success by addressing chronic absence:  How We Can Fill Every Seat in the Classroom.

Ask parents about the importance of school attendance in the early grades, and they can tell you why showing up every day matters. They can also share their very real challenges in getting children to school. Bringing Attendance Home, a video from Attendance Works, features parents talking to other parents about reducing absenteeism. Filmed in schools across the country, the video offers tips for parents and schools to improve student attendance. You can check it out below:

Stay tuned for more news this month and some great information on how ROE 9 and READY are teaming up to get students to school!
